Strøm spa Mont-Saint-Hilaire

In December 2016, part of Strøm Spa Mont-Saint-Hilaire’s installations are destroyed by a fire, razing the original traditional country house, as well as part of an annex built in 2016 as part of an expansion. This addition, located to the west, proposed a contemporary interpretation of the traditional volumes found in the existing part. With a concern for homogeneity and integration to the environment, the streamlined design of the building with gable roof was preserved for the reconstruction. Two volumes, containing the reception, thermal experiences and treatments are added to the western section.

Human scale installations

The three parts of the installations are linked by delicate connections in order to split the geometry but preserve the human scale that characterizes the Strøm Spa of Mont-Saint-Hilaire. Inserts of natural wood carve the volumes and mark entrances and alcoves leading to the thermal experiences. The different buildings were designed with generously sized glazed walls, offering extraordinary views of the site and surrounding landscape.
